Activision Confirms MLG Acquisition

Activision Blizzard has officially announced its acquisition of Major League Gaming.

The acquisition of MLG is part of Activision Blizzard's plan to create "the ESPN of eSports," according to CEO Bobby Kotick.

"MLG has an incredibly strong and seasoned team and a thriving community," Kotick said, and he said together, Activision Blizzard and MLG "will create new ways to celebrate players," as well as gamers' commitment to gaming.

On January 1 of this year, rumors surfaced that Activision Blizzard had bought-out Major League Gaming. While that rumor is now confirmed as a truth, rumors MLG CEO Sundance DiGiovanni had left the company are false.

Kotick specifically said his company is "excited to add Sundance and the entire MLG esports team" to its "competitive gaming initiatives." DiGiovanni hopes the "will expand the opportunities for gamers to be recognized and celebrated" in the world of competitive gaming.

Kotick cited MLG’s "ability to create premium content," along with its broadcast platform and its live-stream capabilities, as points that will improve Activision Blizzard's "strategic position in competitive gaming."
