The wait is nearly over for those of you excited by the
prospect of Pokkén Tournament. Just a few short weeks ago, Nintendo teased us
with more information, stating you can enjoy local multiplayer in the upcoming
Pokémon brawler. Today, we've been graced with even more exciting news. It's no
secret by now that Pokkén Tournament will be coming to Japan on March 18. What
we didn't know is that Nintendo's dropping "Japanese" from the phrase
"Japanese release." That's right, Pokkén Tournament will launch worldwide
on March 18.
To celebrate the launch of Pokkén Tournament as part of
Pokémon's 20th anniversary celebration, everyone who buys a copy of the game's
first production run will find a Shadow Mewtwo card inside. It's not just to
look pretty, as tapping the card to the Wii U's GamePad will unlock Shadow
Mewtwo for you to blast your friends with. If you for some reason don't want
Shadow Mewtwo, then you can always give the card to a friend or sell it on eBay
in a few months.
The worldwide release of Pokkén Tournament comes as part of
the franchise's 20th anniversary. If a new Pokémon fighter isn't your thing,
Nintendo also wants you to play through the original Kanto region when Pokémon
Red, Blue, and Yellow find their way to the 3DS Virtual Console February 27th.
The original games that started this whole Pokémon phenomenon should be able to
last you for a couple of days at least, with plenty of time for repeat runs as
you prepare for Pokkén Tournament's launch on Wii U systems on March 18.
